The world has an insatiable appetite for chocolate. In 2013/2014 more than 70,000 metric tons of chocolate was consumed. Out of our tremendous craving and appreciation for all things cacao, chocolate has become synonymous with decadence, love, and pleasure (sometimes a guilty one).

Yet despite the dollars spent and our emotional and mental associations, many are not aware that chocolate has sacred roots. Chocolate’s past is an indigenous one. From its history, we are given a clue to chocolate’s often underutilized power.
